Super H /TA

Well i was at the sale today and saw it sell 5500 bucks . Not to bad of a job but they could have done a little better and a set of decals would have added to it . The ft. half was of a 54 S/H and the back was a 300 .

Well, I guess every Stage 2 Super H they take out of commission to make their SH-TA`s makes my late `53 Super H just a teeny bit more valuable. :) :) . Seriously, it makes me kinda sad to take 2 tractors out of commission to make one good one,but to each their own,I guess ! Same thing happens everyday at salvage yards.

Red Mist, My Super H is about 1000 tractors before yours. Mine is serial # 19782. Haven`t restored it yet, but it`s in pretty decent shape.

Guess I may as well chime in with the serial #'s of my 1953 SH's. They are: 19574, 19634, 20471 and 21631. Three are in good running condition and one needs lots of help.

Marv ,Are you intentionally collecting only late`53 SH`s or is it just coincidence that you have 4 of `em? I think it`s pretty neat you do.

Mark:
Mine is the same way - not restored, but in right decent shape. It is a full-blooded Stage II. mike

(quoted from post at 07:04:53 01/04/09) Those are babies. Mine is is 29093, last week of production.

Gordo
Wow. Last week of production, eh? That's pretty neat, Gordo. mike

Vet: I'd have chimed in here, just too busy designing a TA for my Super A. Got to have it ready for mowing season. I couldn't bring myself to buy an 8N for the Woods mower. I figure with the SATA, I pull back the TA as I approach ornimental trees, then limbs won't hit my face quite so hard.

Mark, I keep looking for a '54 SH but keep finding the '53 SH's. The local dealers pushed the Farmall 300's and as a result not many 54 SH's were sold in this area. (SE Iowa) Many of the late SH's and SM's I find are low hour and in in decent shape. Guess they were left in the shed when the 560's and 4020's came on the market.

I have a 1954 stage II s/n # 27138 DJ

I keep finding these unique little differences that has kept the job 'interesting' as I have progressed deeper into this project.

I would never dream of hacking it to add a TA... not this model. Although I always wanted iPTO.

She is a still in a few pieces do to restoration but honestly ... a sweet medium duty tractor and with lots of torque.

I agree they are becoming rare anymore and only makes it more valuable to just keep running. The only deals I see anymore are from following generation folks not really knowing the value of what they have.

Hey Gordo , I`m curious. With your SH being the last week of production, does the transmission housing have the holes in it to bolt a fast hitch on it.Was just wondering if they were using any 300 parts that close to start of 300 production. Mark

Tom , Put a picture of it up on here when you get her all prettied up. I`d really enjoy seeing it. What kinds of liitle differences are you finding as you`re going through it ?

Off the top .. the front rails are slightly longer (1-1/2) inch or something like that.

The governor is different although its still an IH. The one arm (to the spring) carriage is different size from anything I have had. This one has 2 weights yet but doesn't match with any of the 300's either. I did find a work around repair for this in a previous thread.

I found a few of the one dot bolts with holes through them. I'm just not sure if this is from previous work and random placement is all.... knowing my father.

It was rebuilt (engine) once during its time and remember how snappy it was when we got it back. If it couldn't pull it.. it would literally bury itself in a hole trying. One you truly had to hang onto her enough so not to tear things up or especially hurt myself !

I'm curious too now. I am going record the head/block/torque tube/arse-end cast numbers just to assure myself what I have here. We did buy it from the original owner in '66 and who knows right ?

The front bolster has that added cultivator notch built in and all that matched up to SH.

The front grill is a mess and is very difficult to find anymore. I am going to try my metal work (wanna be) talents to this. I have researched this a lot and know what I need to do here.

I'm a couple years out yet on this one because it has been broken down completely, in stages, with no bolt left unturned. She'll be running as well she did once before when I am done here.

See you at the farmall square dance ?
(just kidding really)

When building one of these you are not really destroying two tractors. You basically need everything off of a 300 minus the front bolster, sheetmetal, and hydraulic stack. Then from an H/SH you need a front bolster, sheetmetal, mounting brackets, and steering tree. The only real SH part you need is the hyd reservoir. All of the parts needed can come from a tractor in a bone yard. I would not take two good tractors to build a SHTA. It would not make sense. But I would prevent enough parts from going to China for scrap by building one of these tractors.

I am in the midst of getting one pieced together right now. It is not the most popular thing on this board, but it is what I want. In my opinion, this would have been the best H IH ever produced. Actually ahead of the MTA due to the LPTO.
