The original subject was "OT Drilling Concrete".

I think you are right that it is a rock. The carbide looks good on the bit. I tried it in another location (gun safe) and it drilled very well.
I'll get a steel rod and a BFH and see if I can break up what ever is down in that (half) holes.

Thanks

Star drills are still available. an old fat unused #4 phillips Screw driver with the flutes ground to edges will also substitute well. JimN Happy New year.

I read the first post but was unsure if you are using a conventional drill or a hammer drill. [b:9463c765e7]Concrete bits are only designed to work in a hammer drill[/b:9463c765e7]. They will last a long time if used properly in a hammer drill. A conventional drill will burn the bit up shortly regardless of speed due to constant friction. The hammer action breaks up the concrete as it drill. [b:9463c765e7]There are Masonary bits that are for convetional drills for drilling block, brick, or morter only![/b:9463c765e7] Try to drill cured concrete with a masonary bit and likley it will dull before the hole is finished. Star drills are still available but why? They are slow and well, slow. Find a friend that has a hammer drill before you decide to star bit. I have drilled A LOT of holes in concrete. A true hammer drill bit used in a hammer drill should last 50 + holes through concrete, wire, rebar, aggergrate, ect.

I'm using a DeWalt 18v Hammer drill, on the slow speed. If all else fails I'll just cut the anchor bolt and sleeve to fit the hoel. I'm just trying to keep the compressor from tipping over, not anchor it for a tractor pull!

Got the compressor wired into 240, plumbed to the wall black pipe, added oil, good thing I read the book, it was shipped without any oil. Fired it up, checked for leaks with soapy water, and we have liftoff. Why did I suffer through two tractor restorations without this?
Sold my old compressor to neighbor for about half of what I paid for this one!
