flaming 544,, exhaust HOT

i started my 544 gasser today, it was hovering close to 0,, I may have had a little water in the filter as I had to play with it a while to keep her going, I had to choke it a bit, I could see the flame coming out the stack, and right before it leveled off and ran right t he muffler was cherry red,,

after that it ran graet and never missed a lick, and the muffler went back to normal,, unburnt gas I am sure is what made that happen ,, anythning else to look at,, when it gets warmer of course ..

I only had to pull a trailer of firewood by the outdoor boiler so it wont be moved for a week or so,,
 
Also the timing may be off or ya may have sticking centrifugal advance . also running the 87 octain gas as it burns hotter and is not good for that engine .
