sickle mower for Super A

Hi
I have found a belly mount sickle mower with a 5 ft blade, It has 22 on the base of the blade assembly. The guys widow said he had used it on a 100 farmall. My question is this the same as the Cub model 22 mower? I am trying to find an owners manual and can only find ones for a CUB Model 22 --Are they the same?? Thanks I want to use it on my Super A. and are blades hard to find for it? This one moves freely but is very rusty. Thanks again

cris: The mower mounts are different for the Cub due to the larger chassis of SA, 100, 130 and 140. The mower drive shaft from rear to center turns opposite direction and since the pitmen hub is threaded on shaft you can not use a Cub mower on the others or vice versa.

Basically there are two mowers; Cub-22 and A-22 and the A-22 fits SA, 100, 130 or 140.

Thanks alot,Do you have any idea where to start looking for an A 22 model manual (besides E-Bay) Also just how hard is to mount the A 22 mower on a Super A

Teddy: The highway mower is much heavier, and is model number A-23. In my opinion, much too heavy for these little tractors. When using the A-23 one must put the cast wheel on the left, and only with wheels dished out.

It's the same basic balanced head mower as used on H, SH and 300.

cris: It's actually quite straight forward, the end of shaft with V pulley attaches to left final drive, the hooks at other end of shaft attach to bolts on clutch housing. Mower bar extends to right on tractor. There is a stay rod runs diagnol from mower near hinge of bar to the front cultivator mount on tractor.

Binder Books has the rights and are reprinting all IH manuals. I expect if you go to Tractor Manuals, top left of this page, they either have or can order one of these manuals. If not go right to Binder Books.

I use that mower on my Super A and like it a lot. There are some drawbacks to watch out for. There is no "breakaway" if you hit a fence post or such but the tractor is light enough that it will just spin the tractor around if you plug it or hit something. The other is that if you lift the cutter bar too quickly while running it tends to bounce up, making the angle too sharp and breaking the pitman arm. I went through a couple of pitman arms before I figured that out. I make them out of 2X2 fir and they stand up fine otherwise.
