h rear wheel adjustment

The wheels slide on the axle. Jack it up, loosen the 4 wedge bolts until the wedge block is easily wiggled up and down. with the wedge turned downwards slide a spud bar under the tire and lift up on it while using your other hand to push against the top of tire and it will slide right in. The H will get narrow enough to go on a 6'6" wide trailer easy enough. No need to turn the wheels around.

Thanks. New to the forum and H tractors. Just bought one and the owner says both wheels are about 1" from the axle hub and they measure 82" wide which would make 6'6" trailer too small. I checked the specs out and it said 44" to 80"+ and that's why I thought I needed to turn the wheels around. Is this a fairly easy job for two people? I hate to drive 130 miles and not be able to get it. Thanks again for your reply.

Bring a com-a-long with you. Helps to move them in. Hook one end to the wheel your moving and the other end to the other wheel. Then with one person working the com-a-long and you wiggling the wheel it should slide in pretty easy. BTDT many times

like georgeky said, not a bad job to turn the wheels. take a can of penetrating oil or an oil can to lube the axle shaft a litte, or some grease, makes em slide easier. WORD OF CAUTION...check to see if the tires are loaded with calcium chloride liquid, if they are they are very heavy!!!!!! with the valve stem down, press it a little and see if just air comes out, if so...ok, if you get fluid....be careful!!!! could have up to 500 lbs of chloride in the tire, plus the cast center, figure couple hundred pounds, plus the tire and wheel, maybe 800- 1000 lbs. could have wheel weight too, them are about 140 lbs a piece. you may only need to flip one wheel to get in narrow enough.

Ok thanks gents, I will get them in by means of spud bar or come-a-long and turn one wheel in if need be......Thanks again.

If you do take them off the axle make sure you have blocks under axle housings. It can get tippsy with one on and one off. Also make sure that the blocks are where you can slide the wheel in to where you want it. Turning the dish of the cast will move it a bunch. It's one of thoughs been there done that, wrong, things. Don't forget a 3/4 inch socket set, and breaker bar and a cheater to break the bolts loose.
