PTO pilot bushing on IH2444

Saw Dust

Hi,
I just purchased all the parts to install a PTO on my IH2444 (which did not come with a PTO). However the pilot bushing that goes on the front of the PTO to mate the PTO with the transmission shaft does not fit over the end of the transmission shaft. However the PTO shaft fits nicely over the end of the transmission shaft with little or not play without the bushing. Is it possible that the PTO shaft on this particular year/model did not use the bushing? BTW the bushing is Part #48594DA. I would appreciate any help. I don"t want to assemble it without the bushing a regret it down the road.

Thanks Ian

I would think the pilot bushing is needed as this would be the wear surface between the two shafts. You may have to have the bushing turned to fit but I would think this would be a small cost. You may be able to turn yourself. Good Luck

Thanks for the reply. I don't like what you are telling me... but I know you are right. The problem is there is no room for a bushing. What I need to do is turn the end of the transmission shaft down to 1/2" so there is room for a bushing. I have the ability to machine it myself so that is not a problem. Removing this shaft to machine it would be a PITA. However i guess "if a job is worth doing it is worth doing right" Anybody ever removed this shaft in a 2444 or a 444 or similar? How big a job is it?

Thanks,
Ian
