Bearings on MV

Mark in Mo1

I am going to change the front wheel bearings on my MV I can get the first one off with no problem of course, but the inside one is pretty tight. I know I could get it off with a hammer, but I am afraid I could damage something, I can"t get a bearing puller on either, is their an easy way to get it off. Will it hurt just to beat it off. And are new bearings readily available, in case I do knock it around. Thanks

May I suggest that you get the new bearings first and go on with the old ones until you are ready to do the whole job, That way you wont get stuck with a dead tractor. MTF

I"ve not seen the SM setup but I believe it is the same as on the M. The M manual suggests that you clean and grease the bearings while still on the spindle - but I understand that you might want it off to better inspect its condition. You might try putting a bearing separator on the back-side of the bearing and then use your puller. Also the fit might be such that a punch or drift on the inner race will let you tap it off without damage. Yes, the bearings are available, but they might be a bit pricey depending on where you buy them.

Good Luck,
