3-Point for Super C

Anyone have or know of any plans for building a 3-point hitch for a Super C? Sure would like to add one. I am thinking in terms of buying the materials and hiring someone to do the welding.

Smith: If you send me an e mail, I have a couple of decent photos of a hitch on a SC and built using Ford-Fergie lower links. You can buy those lower links new replacements for roughly $50. each, top link around $25.

To continue along the lines of what Red Mist says, I'd take a good look at cost of materials, parts and the labor to do the welding. Compare that total with the Worksaver model's cost. I put together a three-point for my H - I got the frame for $75 and then had to get all the lift arms, cyls, etc.. I wound up with a good strong hitch and I did save some money but only if you didn't take into consideration the time I spent.

The Worksaver mentioned uses a rod from the Touch Control rockshaft to the 3 point. Saginaw uses a cylinder on the 3 point along with a block that fits under the hyd lines that attach to the hyd reservoir. With shipping you will have $900-$1000 in it. But, there is no question about the quality.

My SC came with a factroy 3-point conversion that works off the fast hitch. It works great for me. I've seen a few of them go on eBay, for less than $100 and one didn't get a bid. A post in the want ads on this site may shake one out of the bushes.

Smith: The Saginaw hitch with the remote valve and cylinder is good value for your money, Worksaver is not. You can build a much better smilar type hitch to a Worksaver, for a fraction of the cost of a Worksaver. You will not build Saginaw quality for less money than a Saginaw.

Worksaver will lift about 350 Lbs. at hitch pins. Using proper geometry you can build one to lift 650 lbs. at hitch pins. The Saginaw will be limited only by front end weight and will lift about 1,200 lbs.

slappy: What good would this adapter be if he doesn't have fast hitch? I don't think what you have is a factory 3 point conversion. IH never sold such a device. IH dealers did sell an aftermarket conversion. I know as I bought one when the tractor was only 3 years old.

Hugh, IH did have a factory 3 point conversion for the fast hitch when it came out new on the SC. Got it right in front of me in the 1953 SC sales brochure. Even shows a pic of it with a 3 point grader blade being used. The one I have has IH and a part number stamped right on it. It came new with a neighbors 200.

George: Exactly the reason why I said, "I don't think." I always suspected my dealer had a cheaper source than IH, however I've never seen those in Canadian IH literature. IH were quite careful not to expose our eyes to the same items as you folks.

Back in the 50s I had a cousin in MA, we used to compare buyer's guides every year. Then we'd give it to our dealers on items not available in US or Canada. A couple of items did make us laugh though, cotton pickers were in the Canadian guide.
