Im working on a 1950 H,replacing the one pitted sleeve with a new A&I sleeve. Here is the problem, the new sleeve just slides in and out with little resistance. The bore is stamped with D on the block.Im going to try and use a punch to aneal around top and bottom of bore and use Loctite 640 also. This H wont see everyday use but I dont want the sleeve movin with the new rings Im putting in. Any body else done this ? thanks Jeff.

I recently installed four new sleeves in my Super H and two of the four were loose. By loose I mean that I could push them all the way in with just my hands, no wiggle but a very light press. I used Loctite 640. I would skip the center punching as it is not necessary. If your's are so loose as to have lateral play I would probably think about a light knurling of the entire OD. I don't know if IH has sleeves in different oversizes but you could check. One thing I would suggest from my experience with the 640 is to not use the primer. It only speeds the cure and does not improve the bond. The problem is that it speeds the cure so well that if there is any delay at all in seating the sleeve it can stop all movement before you get it all the way down. Just clean the parts with brake cleaner.

Ive used Loctite sleeve retainer, had good luck. The head torqued down should hold the sleeve down in the block, but watch for it being out of round,,, Shouldnt, but its possible,, When I glued em in, Ill use the loctite on the block bores, then as I drop in the sleeve, Ill dab a little more in as I drop in the sleeve, I spin the sleeve while I drop it in,, so the glue spreads over even, or as best as I can get it for best coverage between the block and the sleeve. Then, set the head hasget on and the the head, with the gasket, torque the the head down so it sets the sleeve with downforce pressure, when the glue dries it should not move. Hope this helps. As for myself i do not care for the gooo and if i have a hole that is not correct then i bore it and install a repair sleeve and bore it to get the correct fit but that is my way do it wright the first time and be done with it . The one thing about building and I H motor is knowing the bore class. BEFORE ordering the parts .
