I bought this 154 Cub; it was running; has a belly type 48 inch mower. It seems to be running good, new parts everywhere, carburetor, ignition, 90# compression, won't pull the hat off your head. I have done everything to get this thing to mow and it still won't mow grass over three inches tall. Was this type mowing it was designed for. I give up; its going to the auction in the spring.

If someone owns one, please tell me what this tractor is supposed to do.

They are not powerful. If it were mine I would put a second 15 horse vertical shaft motor on the deck, and have a very nice flexible speed system. JimN

Check the advance weights in the distributor, have one in the shed that runs great. I would rather mow with the JD 455 it turns a lot better.

I got a 154 with a 60 inch mower.Dang thing did the same thing. It would not cut more than 2 inches of grass.Talk to a older man.He ask me how I set up the deck.Told him I have it flat level. He told me that the leading end needs to be about 1/2 inch lower. If it is notit is like cutting 120 inches. Works good now. Bill

I dont see why it wont pull a 48" deck good. Mine is barely "legal" for the 60" but does ok with new blades. You do have the blade on right, I assume? I did advance my timing just a tad though. I am also running the Zenith carb and Prestolite distributor, and I am told that gives it a couple more ponys.

With only 90 lbs comp. she will not have much power as she is getting tired , should be up around 120 . Now if ya rebuild then use the 184 pistons and head and the carb. . One thing to check is the centrifugal asv. if this is not working correctly or the timing is off she will be lazy if it is retarded and if to far advanced then she will be fighting herself tryen to get the piston over the top and this will kill power

90 PSI compression is pretty weak. She's getting tired. That's why it was for sale.

Are you sure it's a 48" deck? Most common is a 60" deck on these.
