low oil pressure

I have a 51 M farmall I bought about a year ago and the ole boy I bought it from said it needed the valve seats done in the head so I had the head read done and now the oil pressure might come up half way on the original ih gauge and falls but starts up and runs great no knocking . I have replaced the gauge. thanks for all the help

Worst case, the bearings in the engine are shot and you need a total rebuild.

Next worst case, the oil pump is worn out and needs to be replaced.

Next worst case, you need to remove the base plate from the oil pump and true it up on a piece of sandpaper which is laid out on a piece of flat glass. These bottom plates are infamous for warping and causing oil pressure to drop even though the engines themselves are in good shape. They can be "milled" flat by rubbing them on flat sand paper in a figure 8 pattern.

Next worst case, the oil in the engine is way too thin and needs to be replaced with the proper grade oil.

Best of luck. mike

Something else you might try--- loosen the compression nut on the back of the oil gauge and bleed the line--may have some air in it, especially if the tractor has set for a long period.

Might want to take the valve cover off & have a look around in the rocker arm department. See if there is a lot of oil getting away somewhere up there. This is easier than getting into the oil pump/ bearing thing.
