I bought a super c and it was smoking pretty bad. Smoke was oil. Had it over hauled and the smoking stopped but didn't run right. When you give it throtle quickly it smokes a little black somke like gas. The Man that overhauled it is gone. It has new plugs, plug wires, points, everything elect. but it sounds like it has a miss. Doesn't have much power. Carb has beed rebuilt. What else can it be?????? Thanks

First thing is to make sure that you have a spark at all your plugs, if you do then the next thing is to recheck your firing order to make sure you dont have two plug wires reversed on it. Had that happen to me one time went to start an Allis Chalmers C one winter and it ran like crap, decided at -10 I wasnt interested in messing with it so waited till spring and then discovered someone had reversed to wires on me, straigtened that out and it ran like a champ after that.

Sounds like your float level is set too high. We put a kit in our SC & we had to go 3 times to get the float level right. Adjust the float down 3/16 inch at a time to try it. This would be measured with the carb held upside down & measured to the flat surface where the bowl & gasket fit on the base of the carb.

Your plug wires should be in this firing order:
2-1
4-3

Check your valve lash to make sure they're not set too tight. Set them at .017" Cold. Hal

All my tractors "fuel smoke" a little on fast acceleration. The old carbs are not real fuel efficient. Are the plug wires a wire cored wire? Did you replace cap and rotor with the other stuff? Did you check and make sure you don't have an intake leak? How deep did the overhaul get. Did the valves and seats get ground?, are valves adjusted correctly? There are a lot of things that could case a miss, is it a constant miss, or a sporadic miss? Just a few suggestions.

I know this has been up for a while but remember that the Carter Carb has a high rpm adjustment but no low rpm. Some of the others have both high and low rpm valves. Try adjusting the needle valve with the engine runing at high rpm. It should be preset at 1 and 1/2 turns out. Sounds like you are a little rich at high rpm. You also may be firing out of time. You can set the timing by ear by rotating the distributor. If you have a light that is even better. Loosen the two bolts behind the distributor cap. LMack
