Can I tag team on Dave Westlunds question below. The other day I changed the oil on my 53 Super C and when I took the plug out about a tea spoon of antifreeze came out first. The tractor is used for plowing a food plot once a year and pushing the little snow around we get here in SW MO. Its been two years since I last changed the oil cause it sees so few hours. I guess my question is should I be concerned about such a small amount of water getting in the oil over a two year span? The oil was clean and not milky when I drained it and I estimate there was about 3 to 5 CCs. Thanks for all replies.
Paul
PS I put a new head gasket in it and had the head shaved 10 years ago when I "restored" the old girl cause I found a small amount of oil in it at that time. This is the first time it has shown up since.

Paul - You absolutely certain what drained is antifreeze and not just condensation? With your infrequent use of the tractor - and mostly in cold weather - a small amount water condensation in the oil is not unexpected.

Now if it IS antifreeze, 3 - 5 cc lost in 2 years is NOT very much. Suggest putting a can of sealer in radiator then running the engine per instructions on the can. And the next few times you use the tractor, loosen the drain plug, catch an ounce or two of oil in a glass container and see if antifreeze is still getting into the crankcase.

I noticed the same thing on mine this spring -- definitely antifreeze -- I have used it 3 or 4 times since, it has not leaked any more. You can carefully loosen the drain plug not quite to the point where it falls out, the antifreeze comes out before any oil does.

Don't know if your tractor has a water pump or not, but does the sealant work in tractors which do not have a pump ?

My dad bought a new 200 in 1956 that leaked water into the oil from the very start. He never used antifreeze. The oil would turn milky. He didn'd do anything about it and we planted over 100 acres corn (including much of the plowing) with it for the next 20-years. When under a heavy load steam would come out of the oil cap. It never gave a bit of trouble because of the water. The amount of antifreeze you mention is not enough to worry too much about.

Yeh its green antifreeze. The sealer sounds like a good idea. Bob do you know if the Super C engine has the o-rings on the sleeves or not. I have seen post in the past about leaking around these o-rings that seal the sleaves? Thanks so much Bob and others for your replies.
