Farmall 460D - Oil on Hood

Hey there....Got a question...I started my Farmall 460 the other day. Had to crank it a long time..like always as she is a hard starter. After she started I noticed oil on hood. I was on the hood....a big patch had ran out where the manifold and smoke stack meet. What does this mean? After it warmed up, there was no more oil. I drove it and it was fine. No more oil. I started it several more times and did not see any oit. Should I worry? What could it have been?

Cold diesels slobber and it's just the nature of the beast.

Years ago, the first diesel on the place usually caused a service call when the farmers saw that oil for the first time.

Wrap 'er up and make it work; that slobber will go away.

Is the 460 gas or diesel, if it is diesel it was probably fuel that didn't get burn't up when you started it, it will build up fuel in the engine while you are cranking it and can't burn it fast enough when it starts, it will look like oil because it washed the soot from inside the manifold when it came out, a gas will do this also but not as bad, shouldn't be anything to worry about, hope this helps,

As Allan says. Also never baby a diesel work it hard and long and that problem will not be a problem. Baby it and it will keep on being a problem. Diesels need to be worked hard for them to run the way they should
