560 gas Straight pipe?

i currently own a farmall 560 gas with a standard muffler on it.... i was debaitin on putting a Chrome straight pipe for looks with this affect how tractor runs???

If you do it dont go to big, my guess would be 2.5" max. Ive had a few engines burn up exhaust valves when they were straight piped to big. I would probably keep the muffler myself unless its just a show tractor or find a muffler I liked better.

Will not hurt any thing or help any thing. Ya you might get a very small HP boost but not enough to tell. AS for the valve it will not hurt them any, that is just a myth. But it can/will hurt your hearing

Nathan: As long a pipe is same inside diameter as outside of exhaust pipe and same length as mufler it will have very little effect on anything but your EARS.

I have a 560 that we welded a flat plate on top of the pipe that comes out of the manifold. We then bored four holes in the plate so that a John Deere muffler (model A-60-etc style) would bolt to it. A 4" chrome pipe will slip over the JD muffler and fit nice and snug. It gives the illusion of a straight pipe, with out the noise. I used a hole saw and made the hole in the hood larger...if you didn't want to do this, you would need the plate above the hood. This tractor has run this way since the 1970's so the muffler/pipe did no harm to the tractor.

What difference does length make? This is something I've debated with my W-4 as well. I'd like to put a tall straight pipe on it to keep the exhaust out of my face when driving it (the stock sized muffler is much too short for me).

Would the added length have any ill-effects?

My experiance. Tractor rides, half throttle or less, straight pipes are fine. Sure cackles nice. Come time for plow day. I went back home and got my muffler. Too loud for me. Bernie Steffen

Eric: I should have said at least as long, longer wont hurt anything. I've also heard folks say 32" or longer. Yes, definitely put it above your head and put it at least 6" higher.
