Looks like there is a fill cap on top of the gear box? the pulley attaches to. Is this a filler cap? If so, what kind of oil?

Thank you and HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!

(Ordered the owners manual, parts book, and chassis engine service guide today)

Sorry. This is in reference to the side pulley, on the right (brake lever) side of the tractor.

On another note, just to be sure, I should use 6 quarts of 30w motor oil for the hydraulics?

Hi Doug.

Thumbanger has it right, he is talking about the same belt pulley that you are actually.

You dont need to add oil to this unless you remove it from the tractor, since oil will climb the gears from the transmission. Otherwise you would remove that fill plug and add a pint (I think) of oil. I can go get my manual and check if you need it. But you shouldnt need to add anything there unless you have removed that entire assembly.

For the lift-all, you can use straight 30 weight motor oil, or hy-tran, or universal tractor fluid. You can use any of them if you just want oil in there so the pump doesnt go bad. However, if you are actually using it on any implements, you might want to think about what oil is in those lines and cylinders, since it will all mix. I run some hydraulic fluid I got from Tractor Supply in all of mine (One M, two Hs) and have had good luck with it so far.

Sorry to be a broken record on this topic but, for the trans and (via climbing and splashing up) the belt pulley, I'd go with the hytrans in the colder weather.

And only a pint to pre lube it if you hgad it off and drained. It is lubed from the gears! as stated below/above. JimN
