My Christmas letter to you

No, this is not just another Christmas letter letting you know how great my kids are and what a wonderful vacation we had, Blah blah blah. First off my sister hates those impersonal letters so this is written special just for you my friend. And the other sister once complained about people who send cards and only sign their name, “I already knew that” she says. So this is somewhere between those two extremes.
I’d like to know how you are doing. Did you manage to weather the ups and downs and not loose faith in our Great God or humanity in general? It is hard to keep an upbeat attitude and I struggle with that myself. Little pains and disappointments become much larger over time if we do not have someone close to share them with. Lets both seek out a partner to trust and share the load with in this coming year. Yes that is risky. We share some special thought and then it gets repeated when we would rather it was held in trust. But we must take that chance for the man or woman who lives as an island will surely fall to the Devils Snares. Left alone we have no compass to keep us on track. And let’s remember that works both ways friend and not be passing around choice morsels that we happen to hear. Gossip is one of the most unloving acts we can do, one that has far reaching implications to the injury of the soul.
Secondly I encourage you to read the Bible this year. The Words of God are Truth and Life and if you do not believe that I would like you to examine what you do believe. Do you not know in your heart that there is some bigger force out there that time and space? That knowledge is born in every human child and awe and wonder will prevail until it is surpassed into oblivion. I ask you to examine the most avowed atheist. Why dose he concern himself with Christianity? Why does he feel threatened by believers in God? Is it my friend because he knows in his heart that it is true and he wants to refuse to believe?
And then if you do have enough faith to wonder. To wonder in awe and reverence at the expanse of the winter sky, the constellations in their proper circuit since the beginnings of time, The earth itself with just the right amounts of light, atmosphere, and water to sustain life. And the wonder of new life itself, a tiny child, a newborn puppy or kitten, or a romping calf. I would ask that you seek God in his Creation, In your daily travels and as you sit at home in rest. Speak to him in confidence as you would a dear friend. Ask him to show you how you should live each day, ask him for the things you need as a child asks their parent knowing full well that the parent loves them and has their best interest at heart.
For we celebrate at Christmas time, not the “Holidays” or the “Season,” But we celebrate the Birth of the Christ Child. The One come to earth from God in Heaven to make a personal connection with his people, the people whom he created and so longs to have friendship with. But that friendship was broken in the Garden of Eden when the First man Adam and his wife Eve decided that they knew better than God what was best for them and went their own willful way. Then God sent his son Jesus. To live as a man and die as a man that he might pay the price for our waywardness and pave a road back to fellowship with God himself, The fellowship that was broken in the Garden. It matters not friend how far from the trail you have wandered, Christ is waiting, with open arms and heart saying, “come back my child, come back.”

Merry Christmas and a truly “New” new Year

Howard

Amen, Cowman!!
And, these hard times to come will pass, and those in His Hands will be carried through according to His good and eternal plan - -though it may not be to our thoughts or wishes. Despite what the world would tell us (through the "most trusted name in news" etc.), God is still in Control!!

Merry Christmas, and May His Peace be with you!
John

Thank you, Howard. I like the quote in my copy of "Our Daily Bread" (12/21), to wit: [b:0dba9a8a97]The birth of Christ brought God to man; the cross of Christ brings man to God[/b:0dba9a8a97]. Merry Christmas to everyone!
