somewhere in the 1940's M

Twice this year my neighbor has needed help with starting his M and twice it just needed clean plugs. The old ones are fouled with oil, We are using champion D21 Is there a hotter plug? Also the spark seems weak Any Ideas. I have learned much from this Forum Thanks Dave K

D23 or some other brand with the same or hotter heat range. Regardless of the comments about Champion that will undoubtably follow this post, the tractor needs an overhaul. My dad had an H with the same problem. Until he had time to get it overhauled, the dealer put a plug branded "Stitt or Stitts" that would fire in oil -- I doubt if they are still around, as this was in the 50's.

If they have a lot of oil on the plugs, probably best to do a overhaul. You could try a hotter plug, but if it is using too much oil, they might not fix the problem either.

Champion Spark plug list, cold down to hot:

D-6
D-9
D-14
D-16
D-21
D-23
D-89D (special extension model)

I use D18Y in my Farmalls.

Hi I was going to go with a D23 It doesn't smoke or use oil just fouls the plugs after 6 months. The tractor doesn't get used alot I think it never gets warmed up enough Thanks for the help Dave K

When I worked for a JD dealer we recommended the D23s for the old As and Bs. They have a longer base and the others that are supposed to be the same heat range, autolite or AC, just aren't the same.
