584 PTO Lever Won't Stay Forward

Hi All,
First post but I've been browsing andsee that there is a wealth of knowledge here. I just bought a used 1980 IH584 tractor with a FEL and a McKee blower on the back. PTO engages but the lever won't stay forward. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Hi, sometimes it is the linkage from the PTO lever to the actuating valve on top of the MCV valve under your left foot where the hydraulic filter is located. The hydraulic filter is fastened to the MCV valve and the PTO valve is under the rubber boot that is on top of the MCV valve. So with some of your favourite penetrating oil, lube the control linkage and also under the rubber boot.
There is an adjustment for the control linkage and if you require it re-post and I can scan the pages from my service manual.

Thanks for the info. It's -20 deg C here today so I'll wait for warmer weather before I attempt anything. A scan of the control linkage adjustment would be fantastic. I just bought an operations manual for the tractor and I think I'll also invest in a service manual.

Hi with reference to photo:

PTO LINKAGE ADJUSTMENT
All Models, Loosen the pto control handle
bolts (Fig. 159). Then, adjust linkage (A)
so that pto valve movement is 1-3/16
inches plus or minus 11/32-inch from
disengaged to engaged or over-center
position. Move the control handle to
disengaged position and adjust the
lever to center of notch. Tighten bolts in
control handle. Then, with engine running,
move control lever to the "feathering"
notch position. When control lever
is released, it should return freely to the
disengaged position notch.
