4th and 5th Gear in a Model H Farmall

I need to replace the 4/5 sliding gear in my 1940 Farmall Model H. Part number on old gear is 56420. I have found a replacement gear but it has part number 56420DA. I can not find anything to tell me if this gear will work.

Does anyone on here know if this DA gear is the same as my old gear which does not have the DA stamped on the old gear.

Thanks for any help on this.

My understanding is a "DA" suffix indicates a revision has been made to the basic part. In other words some sort of improvement has been made to the part.

However as long as the basic part number is the same, a part with DA suffix (also DB, DC, etc) is freely interchangeable with the original part.

Suffixes are usually downward compatible, that is a DA will usually replace a D. I imagine your old gear has a D on it if you look closely, as 99% of the parts that IH manufactured had suffixes.

Thanks for the replys. I will give it a try and see if it will work. A local dealer said he could get me one for $600.00 and I think he must think i am dumb. I can buy a parts tractor for that.

Anyway thanks to both of you who responded.
