706 repower

I have a 706 gas that runs great but, I would like to repower it with a cummins 3.9 BT. I know some people are using 6 cylinder engines. Has anyone tried a 4 cylinder. The engine I have is from a bread van, some 4bt industrial engines have balancing weights in the oil pan. My engine does not. If I bolt this in my tractor am I going to rattle everything loose? I don't want to rubber mount the engine. PS anyone need a good 263 gas thanks

Kevin I used to work for the BNSF railroad and they had many Cummins engines of that kind. If you let them idle too slow they would shake pretty bad. Keep them up third throttle and they were alright. Outside of that Very good power Bernie Steffen

Dad's got a 5220 Maxxum with that 4bt Cummins engine in it. Nice peppy little tractor as long as you keep the RPMs over 1400. Idles at 950.

HP wise, it would be a good swap-in for a 706. There will be a bit of a gap between the front of the engine and the radiator, though.

My buddy and i just did a 4 BT into a Oil all Over 1855 out of a bread truck , not one of the better jobs but it is in there . Like said below on the engine setting back to far from the rad. , so we used a electric fan out of the bone yard and barn yarded . The one thing that i did not like was the exhaust manifold as it has the turbo setting on and angle out and away from the engine . We have not looked into a different exhaust manifold to get the turbo setting flatter and thus allowing us to run the exhaust up thru the hood and PUTTING A MUFFLER ON IT . As for vibration i really did not notice any . IT just looks stupid setting in there . If i could have found a good crank for the 310 i would have rebuilt it . Would have been a lot less work .
