clutch adjustment

How do i adjust clutch on my 450.Brush hogged earlier today now it grinds real hard shifting gears,could it have just gotten hot? Also,need to know if tranny fills at hyd tank.

Adjust linkage to 3/8-1/2 free play. Unless you have special or double clutch like some fords. Get a manual if you have any trouble with this.
Not familiar with this tractor, just general info. You do know these old tractors are a little hard to shift while moving. Usually select gear and play with clutch till up to speed.
 
Kevin: Does the 450 have TA? If so, you best find a manual, it's not quite a simple as dave describes. The manual uses a diagram with directions. The Diagram is worth a 1,000 words. I suspect your clutch has been out of adjustment for some time, could be toast.

The transmission is completely separate from hydraulics. Transmission has a fill to level plug on side, about 4-5 inches from bottom. Filling transmission is done on deck, Triangle plate opposite to and same bolt pattern as gear shift lever.
 
Hugh:Thank you for your reply,i didn't think it would be that simple.Tried to find a manual dont really know where to look.Hopefully someone on this wonderfull forum can help...(hint).

Kevin: I agree with jim's advice. It's not that difficult. The diagram give exact measurments and they have to be exact. Close doesn't count, with these YA setups.
 
Kevin, there are all sorts of resources for manuals. Ebay has reprints, but you need to be careful you don't pay too much for a poor quality photocopy stapled together. Other sources like Binder Books (good), Jensales (okay, but spiral bound, not like original).

Your local Tractor Supply should have the I&T service manual on the rack.

Adjusting the TA and clutch is a very exacting process, though you may have more wrong than a simple adjustment. They don't "get hot." They also don't get that far out of adjustment that quickly.
