What kind of gasket material on the sediment bowl?

My sediment bowl is leaking on my M, I made a gasket out of rubber so I could plow snow with it. But, it still leaks some. What kind of material should I get to make one or is this something that an IH dealer would carry.

Any good auto parts store should keep them on hand. For the most part there is one size fits all, other then on some of the fords. When ever I buy them the store runs out because I buy all they have on hand and some times I even have them order more if I can't get at least 3

You need to take your glass bowl with you as over the yrs its hard to tell what sediment bowl would be on your tractor. NAPA and other stores should have them i pay about 2bucks for a rubber gasket and screen at NAPA.

I forgot to mention for you to check the metal surface where the bowl seats to make sure it isnt sprung as too many times they used a pliers to tighten the bail and have sprung the area where the bowl seats. If its sprung its toast and you will need a new one. A good one only needs to be tightened with your fingers to seal.

Get some of the cork/rubber composite gasket material. Works great. Made one last week for my cub"s original sediment bowl, and it hasn"t leaked a drop and I haven"t even turned it off.

You can buy these gaskets from several places. Most of them are rubber now. Whereas originally they were cork. I've had trouble with the new rubber ones leaking. I think it's because they are made of nitrile rubber which is good for gasoline, but not good for gasoline that contains ethanol, which most gas does these days. I found some NOS cork ones and have been using those. No leaks. The rubber ones need to me made of EPDM rubber or Viton to withstand the gasoline with ethanol it it.
