Hi everyone, have a question. When I place the tractor in high gear (5th.) and hold brake, I let clutch out and it doesn"t kill the motor. What do you think, worn clutch or weak springs in the pressure plate? Either way, I"ll be tearing this thing down shortly.
Thanks,
Charles

I second that. Need free play or else clutch is not allowed to fully contact flywheel and will slip-. Try easiest first.

You're wasting your time if you don't replace both clutch and pressure plate while you're in there. Unless you like doing everything twice.

Charles! If the clutch releases/engages at the very top of travel, adjust the free play to 1.125 inches at the deck plate to pedal stop. where it just begins to feel pressure to release by your hand pressure. JimN

Could be oil on the disc making it slip. Probably just a worn disc. You'll see when you get it apart. If it's oil, you'll have to replace the rear seal or correct what is leaking.

Hi Jim,
Everythings adjusted right, I think it's just wore out. I was thinking about installing a flywheel off of a Super M and going to a 12" setup vs. the 11" setup I have now. I figure it should have more holding power.

The issue will be that the 12 inch cannot be changed through the access under the tractor, it will require a split to do it. A HyCapacity new PP will do wonders for grip on the smaller clutch, especially if you use a ceramic Puck type driven disk. Jim

Hi Jim,
It's going into my W-6. I have read at one point that using the flywheel out of the SM/400, a pressure plate for a 986, and a 6 button clutch will do wonders in the holding dept. What do you think? Just don't want to do it twice.
