Farmall M stuck steering

I have a 47 farmall m that steered fine up till it go real cold out. I jacked up the front end and both spidles seemed to move freely, removed hood and radiator cover. Removed cover were worm gear runs with steering gear. The problem seems to be in the vertical shaft going to the axle. Has anyone ran in to this our could give me a idea what to look at. Thanks

there is a lower bearing at the bottom of the steering shaft. remove the pipe plug on the bolster and check that. there is also a bearing on the bottom of the bolster steering shaft. if that one is out, you need to drop the shaft out the bottom and replace the bearing. carter and grunenwaldt has a whole rebuild kit for the blster for about 160 dollars, all the bearings, seals, and upper and lower bolster bushings.
