?'s for homemade 3 pt. for M

I finished working on my 3 pt. today and decide to try it out. I built it for 1 cylinder (as of now anyways) and I had a 2X8 and a 3X8 cylinder laying around to try on it. Even with the 3" cyl. I couldn't lift a 1100 lb. bale. My pressure gauge was showing 900 psi. Sound about right? I did get it to lift a heavy 7' blade and several other things with the 2" cyl. Should I try to borrow a 4" cyl. to try on it or am I just spinning my wheels trying to get M hydraulics to lift a round bale? I've heard of people doing it, but with two 3" cylinders. I'll post some pics later

With more cylinders pushing it should be eventually possible by adding more bore-area (or more cylinders) if the structure is up to the loads.

One issue is how fast the cylinders can fill...not sure what the GPM or cubic inch per rev rating is for the M hydraulics...are you using the belly hydraulics or the live/SuperM style pump?

The whole setup weighs around 350 lbs. so I think she is built heavy enough probably over kill but the tractor could use extra weight in the rear anyhows. I'm using the original belly pump as well. I did notice a speed reduction from the 2" to the 3" cyl., but not as much as I thought it was going to. 3" is still plenty fast.

Thought I would try to post picture of my tractor. sorry, did not have the 3 pt. on it then.

If I figured this correctly the 4 inch will lift 75% more than a 3 inch. I would borrow a 4 inch and try it.

Lance, Copy the side you built for the one cylinder and build same for the other side. Install two 4" cylinders. You'll be able to lift way more than you ever thought possible. Your problem now will be to keep front of tractor on the ground, but you'll get used to it. I built one like I just described and it's amazing. You will be very pleased. John

With two 3 inch cylinders and good pump the limiting factor on what you can lift will be keeping front end down. Two 3 inch cylinders are not unusualy slow, almost as fast as most factory 3 points IMO.

You'll be better off and happier with the performance if you install the live hydraulic pump in front of the distribuitor. I think the PSI is around 1200-1500 and have a higher flow rate.

I HAVE A 3PT ON MY M WITH BELLY PUMP AND TWO 2"
CYLINDERS AND UP AND DOWN PRESSURE IT IS PLENTY FAST AND HAVE NOT FOUND ANY TING IT WON'T LIFT, INCLUDING IT WILL LIFT THE TRACTOR OFF THE GROUND WITH THE PUSH BLADE ON IT.
