300 won't start

I've got a few things yet to check but this farmall 300 has me stumped. Tractor fired up and ran for about 5 mins then died. Before getting there to work on it they changed the plugs, condenser&points. I checked the gaps (.020 on points, .023 on plugs) and put on a new cap, rotor, and wires (old ones were bad).
It's got good spark, compression, and fuel going to the carb. But it won't fire on either or gas.... Plugs arn't getting even getting wet. I'm going to check the timing this weekend, any other ideas???
Thanks

just a wild guess, but did you take the air cleaner tube off at the carb and try and start it. could be there is ice in the air cleaner oil cup. are you geting fuel in the carb bowl? there should be a screen where the fuel line enters the carb at the fitting. is there an aftermarket in line fuel filter on it?

A stuck float in the carb will prevent filling of the bowl. The engine will run for a while then die like it had no fuel. Tapping the side of the carb might free it, but pulling the bottom off of the carb will also tell the story.
Assuming it has fuel in the bowl. Does it suck hard on the palm of your hand (over the air intake on the carb air horn) when cranking? If not it could be cam timing. Another reality is a leak in the intake manifold. (they usually don't run then stop though) JimN

Try a little starter fluid. If if fires with starter fluid but will not run, then it is probably something wrong with the carburator.

Air, fuel, compression and fire.

After a compression check I would put some gas in the spark plug hole and then see if it kicks.

That should tell you a lot.

5 minutes is about the time it takes for an H or a 300 to stop running after you shut the fuel off. Not like the Super M, it's gone in 60 seconds.

I'd say you sucked the carb dry.the carb dry. And you TOLD us that because the plugs are dry.

Thanks for the replies. Yes, the air cleaner is removed, and is sucking hard thru the carb. Thinking possibly a carb problem we swapped the carb with one from a 350 and still no success.
I pulled the fuel line off of the carb and it's got good supply. Also tried blowing into the carb thinking the float is stuck but can blow thru easily so the valve's open.
I've tried either (starting fluid) but it doesn't even try. Thus spark, compression, fuel but no bang.... other than a possible timing issue I'm lost.... Is the cam gear drive or chain drive?

Hold your hand over the throat of the carburetor and see if there's good suction there. Make sure
the intake manifold is tight & the base of the carburetor. Are you sure the plug wires are in the correct firing order on the cap? If the rotor turns CW they're probably in this order.

If there's an inline fuel filter I would remove it. Is there an electric fuel solenoid shutoff on the carb? If there is, it may not be opening.

Bring No1 piston to TDC on the compression stroke
then remove the distributor cap and see where your rotor is pointing. Should be at the No1 plug tower. It may have jumped time. Hal

Does this unit have a sediment bowl??? It may have ice in it & the ice looks like gas---but won't let the fuel through fast enough. Likewise, if the fuel line has a low spot in it where water would collect, the water may have turned to ice & blocked the fuel flow.
