Woods mower on 230?

I've got a Woods 42 on my Cub, but am thinking about going to an L59 on either my 45 A or my 230. The Woods website doesn't list a 230 as one of the tractors that can take an L59. I realize there are many A's with the L59 and a hand lift. Since the 230 has hydraulics, I was wondering how much trouble it would be to make the mower work on the 230. Thanks for your time.

Try sending an email request to Woods if you are willing to buy a new mower. I don't think there are many configurations they can't fit. LMack

Go for the 72inch model it will mount the same as on a C. Get the drive for the belt pulley as the PTO model has a huge assy to mounton the axle. The belt pulley model has much simpler mounts and will be a whole bunch cheaper. You will like the 6ft it will do a great job and will lift with your rockshaft. Last one i gopt was around 2200 that was couple yrs ago.

A 230 is just an upgraded Super C, which in turn is just an upgraded C. That should help you in your search.

The only complication there is if your 230 has the HydraTouch system instead of the TouchControl (i.e. "lift arms" or rockshafts). You will need to rig up a lift cylinder for the mower.

I have a six foot woods on my Super C, should be just like your 230. I don"t know what model it is though. It drives the belt off of the pto. Gene is right on about the size, plenty of power to run 6 foot mower. It also is wide enough that it sticks out past the right tire enough to avoid catching the axle on something that you are trimming around.

James: Kirsch is right, you don't have Touch Control hydrauluics with a rockshaft, just Hydra Touch with remote outlets to operate hydraulic cylinders. There shouldn't be much difficulty in adding a hydraulic cylinder.

The item that would concern me more, is do you have Fast Hitch. Not very many 230 ever came from the factory witout it. If you have fast hitch I think it will have to go in order to install any belly mower. Fast hitch is right in the path of mower drive belt.

Yessir Mr. McKay, that fast hitch was the big thing that was concerning me, too. I'll have to ponder a while longer because I use that 230 to pull a hay rake during mowing season. I like Mr. Bender's idea of a 6 footer running off the belt pulley, but I'm concerned the belly mower would have to come off during hay season. Since most of my mowing is fairly close to the house, I will probably end up using the A for mowing and use the hand lift. Thanks, everyone, for your help and ideas.

James: Forget this Mr. business, I like Hugh.

I put a Woods 59 on my SA about 5 years ago. First thing that had to go was my fast hitch, didn't particularly like that. Then there is the fact I like to use my SA for cultivating and other tractoring. In spite of all that I have settled in to the fact, SA is a mower tractor that I can use to pull a trailer on very smooth ground.

You will not be very happy using 230 for mowing then removing mower for raking. When you put the mower back on it can take up to 2-3 hours getting that belt running true.

Here would be my suggestions, and yes there is more than one.
1. Convert the A to 12 volt, then find a little 12 volt winch that has raise, lower and with switch off a brake applied. I've never looked closely into this, however there must be such a winch.

2. Buy a 72", 3 point hitch mower and use it behind 230 with a 2 point to 3 point adaptor. My next door neighbor has such a mower he uses behind his 1020 Deere, 4 caster gauge wheels on the mower, thus enabling him to let mower float on gauge wheels.

There is another thing I don't like about belly mower on my SA. Tractor is too high around most of my ornamental trees. I have thought a 8N or Fergie would be much better. Then I've also thought I'd go with a 72" 3 point hitch mower, then buy a little rideon for around the trees. This has been some of my experiences, some good, some bad, trying to achive what might be perfect. I'm still undecided, thus I keep on mowing with SA.

A 230 is basically the same as a 200 and I bought one a couple years back with a 2 pt that a school had used to mow with for a number of years. When I bought it it came with the second woods, I guess the first woreout. Anyway it is a 59 "I think". I have never used it. I coule go out to the farm and look for the number if you want it.
