1940 Farmall A

Bought an A a while back. I never got around to posting pictures. IT is complete except for lights. Has fenders, pto shield, a perfect grille, and an IH mower for $1200. It has been "restored" or at least that is what the owner thought.

I bought a 44 just like it 3 years ago - same mower plus cultivators and side dresser. paid 1350 for it. I think we both got a good deal.

Looks great! and for 1200.00 I think you got a great deal. Any reason for the front wheel weights? I would think that removing would make it easier to steer and prolong the life of the steering box. On my A, I don"t have any, and have yet to lift the front end unless I"m doing something I shouldn"t be.

I got a B recently too. Needs a grill and has surface rust, but otherwise it is in similar condition. This A also has 2 brandnew mismatched tires.

I'm in washington so the moisture really gets to them too. but this ones in real good shape. It's a fun little tractor to drive.

has alot more power then my cub. im not sure the horse power on the A, but i think my cub is only about 9 or 10 hp. still a fun little ride!

If that's a Model 21 mower on the back, that's a pretty heavy anchor for a 1900# tractor. It's mounted entirely to the chassis, no tail wheel, and hangs off the back quite a ways, so front wheel weights are somewhere between nice-to-have and a must.

Wow, I wish mine looked that good!

All the tractors we have/had around here (A, BN & 200) had wheel weights both front and back. I think back in the day, when they were really worked it was necessary.

I've heard countless talk about going up a hill with the JD 14T and haveing to steer with the breaks.

Every bit of weight helped. Those front weights don't weight a whole lot either.
