Starter Bell Housing for F-20

I have heard that people have made modifications to add a starter to a f-20. Does anyone have any information on how to do this or where to purchase the parts?

Thank you for the help!

Heisler company of Hudson Iowa made them back in the day. new bellhousing with the starter under the framerail on the manifold side of the engine.

the starters are the same as 33-34 chevy's. nobody makes new belhousings, but the ring gear on the flywheel can be replaced with one for an M.

The short drive shaft between engine and tranny gives a place to fasten a flywheel and starter from a car ,truck or whatever. Sure beats a crank as those who have the vellhousings arent too anxious to sell. Talked to a fellow that had two of them but said they were not for sale. I think he is planning on them breeding and multiplying.

I have a complete original changeover kit in storage. Feel free to make me an offer if you like.

The year of starter is a highly debated item. According to a man who worked for and knew Harry Heisler personally said the 100% correct year is a 1929 Chevy Starter. But there is other years that will work but the setup was patented with a 1929 Chevy Starter.

Scott, i just use 33-34 as an example for the fit since they seem to be the most available to get. i pulled the starter off my 34 chevy truck, and bolted it right on a 20. worked perfectly. the bendix housing is what makes or breaks it. they were the same from 29 to 34. later starters had a bit bigger motors since chevy was using a 6 cylinder instead of a 4 like in the 29's
