hello! i have a international 606 gas tractor with a 3000 loader and a backhoe on it. it has the forward reverser option which gave me no trouble until one day it was fine then it would not go in reverse then it did now it wont go all i get is a light grind from it. i seen another post with a picture of bad gears and mine do not look anything like that one looking through the top access plate. i removed the linkage and went right for the fork but it did not work. the forward works fine but when in neutral it lurches forward i am not sure if that is common for these tractors. i put in a new clutch about a year ago so i do not think it is that. anybody have any ideas? thanks in advance......chris

Hi Chris, I have a 2606 with 3000 loader and case 33(s)(I forget now) backhoe.

I have more hydraulic and steering issues right now among other things. Maybe we can visit sometime about them. I wonder how much of a job it is to replace the clutch with that loader and hoe on it.

Not sure I can help you on the direction reverser. Mine has a different problem. The direction reverser popped out of gear going forward at any speed or when pulling hard. Kinda identified one gear that was the culprit. Have to look at the IT manual to ID it. Was told about that on this board. When I looked at the manual that came with it from the previous owner, I noticed someone had written in a price for that gear in the drawing. An expensive fix along with a split. Anyway I temporarily fixed it with a 3" x 1/4" bolt with a washer and piece of fuel line hose and then double nutted it. Found the fartherest point forward the shifter goes and drilled a hole in the side of the dash. Then I slide the shifter behind the bolt to keep it from kicking back out of gear. Works so far. Mine has a little grind sometimes going into gear and sometimes none. Not sure if a clutch or synchronizer issue.

I'm not sure I have an explanation for your problem and apparently so far neither has anyone else. You can go to the caseih.com website and pull up and print out the diagrams and parts lists. Not sure if the direction reverser shows up under 2606 but you can find it under the 606 and 656. Those tractors use common parts and the manuals don't always reflect what you have. I find stuff listed under the 460 & 560 also since the 2606 is kind of a hybrid and these models all share the same IT manual. The hydraulic system shows up under the 656.

The direction reverser also had a neutral. It will run and spin the gears inside in forward or reverse (but not neutral) even with the tranny out of gear. Not sure what to tell you except look at it and shift if with the cover off and running and not running to see if there are any problems. Could be a broken ring or spacer or something. Run a magnet or your hand (not running of course) around the bottom of the tranny case to see if you get any metal pieces or drain the case to look for some. May need to drain it anyway to watch your gears. Look for any broken teeth or the edges of the teeth where they mesh together on the gears.

Post back with what you find out. Maybe someone else can add something here since I don't know much.

hello! thanks for the reply. my reverse more or less all of a sudden stopped going into gear if i could hold it in i sure would try your remedy. i noticed on my gears they may be worn but are still there but it seems like it should go in gear. as for you doing your clutch with the loader and backhoe it was easy depending on your mechanical ability i have been spinning wrenches for 25 years. anyway once you remove all the bolts and support the rear of the tractor it will slide along the front loader support with a jack i did mine in the dirt so i put a piece of diamond plate steel for the jack to roll on just take your time and be sure to place the jack on a good balance spot on the tractor. that was the only trouble i had. .... chris
