international 2000 loader for a 460 utility

I have a 1960 International 460 Diesel Utility Tractor and I need to know if if an International 2000 loader will fit this tractor and what needs to be done to make it fit.

The loader could be put on. Likely have to make your own brackets. They are a very good loader. BEFORE you put any loader on a 460 utility run some at least 1/2'x 6' flat iron from the bolt holes in the front end back to the bolt holes in the clutch houseing. This will tie the tractor togather. Otherwise you will break the timeing gear cover.

Unless it came off a 460 Utility, or maybe a 606, it will definitely require that you make your own brackets. A 2000 loader will fit on literally dozens of IH tractors with the right bracket kit from the factory. However, as a general rule these loaders were purchased with one bracket kit, the one for the tractor the owner intended to install it on. Odds are that you probably will find a nice 2000 loader, but it ironically it will be installed on a FARMALL 460.

My 2606 has an IH 3000 loader. Back bracket of the subframe slides up to and against the rear axle and attaches with U bolts. Front brackets bolt up on the left and right side of front frame above the axles with 4 bolts/capscrews on each side. The front of the loader subframe sits on top of these brackets and are allowed to move up off of the rest. The subframe in front has a heavy bracket that ties the left and right sides together just in front of the radiator. The posts of the subframe come up around the gas tank area and have a light cross member going across in front of the steering wheel.

What kind of brackets does your 2000 loader have?

Have you tried to match the brackets up and measure from the axle to the front as well as the width?

zero: I've modified several loaders going from one tractor to another, including an IH 2000. You have a lot more fabrication going from a 4 cylinder tractor to a 6 cylinder, (or vice versa) than you will going from a Farmall to a Utility, (or vice versa) Front bolster on a Utility is very close to same distance from axle housings as the Farmall. I did two different changes on 300s going from Utility to Farmall, very little fabrication.

When I bought my Farmalls 656 and 504 and a 2000 loader with farmland. New the loader had been on the 656. The vendor had cut 6" out of loader frame, each side, back about 3" from axle housings to mount this loader on his 504. Luckily he saved those pieces and I had to weld them back in to mount that same loader on my 560 Farmall.

As I recall the front supports with that 2000 loader could be put together a variety of ways for mounting on several tractors. I can tell you no modification was required to the front mounts going from Farmalls 656 to 504 to 560. Furthermore I did not use all the possibilities. I'm betting that same front support would bolt to and adjust to match up 460 Utility front bolster. I say that as the 2000 loader was introduced during 460-560 production run.

Having said that, kits were also made to install 2000 loaders on a variety of other tractors, quite unrelated to 460 and 560, some of them newer than 460 and 560.

the 2000 was the "industriel" version of the 2001, and there are some similarites, and differances. the 2001 was a "normal" duty farm loader.i've seen both on tractors as big as a 706, and as small as an M. i have also seen a 2000 loader on a 460 from the factory, the right mounts were availabe, but might be hard to find now.

By the way, I have a 2000 loader owners manual and would be happy to look up any information you may need to know. Unfortunately I do not have a scanner that works.

JK: I bought a 2000 loader, complete with manual when it was about 5 years old. I have two IH buyers guides from the 1960s, and no where do any of these books refer to the 2000 as an industrial loader. There was a 3000 loader, however it came after these buyer's guides I have, thus I can't comment whether IH called it an industrial. I saw one of those 3000, alongside my 2000. My opinion if any were called Industrial it would be the 3000.

I had a true industrial loader, another make, when I bought the 2000. Believe me, 2000 is quite a light loader. Probably about half the steel of a true industrial loader.

I have the opertors manual for the IH 3000 loader. It doesn't specifically say industrial but says it is designed to operate on the 340 utility, 340 industrial, 504, 2504, 460 utility, 460 industrial, 606, and 2606 tractors. Requires a 17 gpm pump. Specifications include break-out capacity of 4850 lbs. and a full height lift of 3000 lbs.

Doesn't appear to be any different brackets for the different models except in the way they are mounted. May have to remove and raise the fenders. Any variances lump the 460, 606, & 2606 together and the 340, 504, & 2504 are lumped together. The length to the center of rear wheel is 7 1/2" longer with the 460, 606, & 2606 and I can't tell why.

I may be wrong but I believe they are grouped that way cause the 460, 606 and 2606 are longer like you said due to having six cylinder engines rather than four like the 340, 504 and 2504. So those tractors have a larger overall length because of it.

I understand your replies Hugh & JJ regarding the engine which would lengthen the tractor itself, however my manual lists the distance from center of rear axle to front of the bucket as 142" for the 340 and 149 1/2" for the 460. If the bucket, loader subframe, and axle brackets for the loader are the same for both, then the measurements should be the same unless the 460, etc. uses a much thicker axle.

On my 2606 the front subframe cross member/bracket sits in front of the radiator with a small gap. The manual says nothing about shortening the frame so I'd assume that the cross member/bracket in front of the radiator on a 340 would stick out so many inches from the radiator since it is on a shorter tractor.

I wonder what the same specs are for the 2000 loader from the manual and what are the lift weight capacities.

bc: The 2000 loader subframe for 4 and 6 cylinder tractors is different. If you go back to my original responce to zero, who started this thread. My 656, 504 and the 2000 loader came with farmland I bought in 1972. The previous owner had bought both tractors and the loader new in 1967. The IH dealer delivered him the 656 with 2000 loader mounted. Knowing this neighbor as I did, (he's now deceased) I expect he consulted the IH dealer before removing loader from 656 and reinstalling it on 504. He had a welder cut 6" out of loader subframe, (each side) back about 3" from axle housing mounts. He then mounted loader on the 504.

When I bought this equipment loader was on the 504. I indicated to the vendor, I did not intend to keep the 504, however I intended to mount the loader on my 560. With that, he walked down to the drive shed, picked up the two 6" pieces of loader frame he had cut out. He said, "You'll need these as loader subframe for a 6 cylinder tractor is longer than for 4 cylinder tractor." There is no doubt in my mind, this info came right from IH dealer.

The front supports for that loader had enough adjustment, they never had to be modified going from 656 to 504 then on to 560. Not even any new holes had to be drilled. It was a case of 6" out for 504 and 6" back in for 560. I should point out, I never did measure those pieces, they may not have been exactly 6" long.

Ok, Hugh, we are on the same page. I was referring to the 3000 which appears to use one subframe and you are referring to the 2000 which uses two subframes. I was just trying to learn and clarify the differences between the 2000 and the 3000 which wasn't really asked by "zero" who so far hasn't indicated any response or appreciation for the help he has been offered or provided us any further information.

bc: Amen, and welcome to YT, we are truly blessed by those who ask a question, then never take part in discussion.

For everyone that replied I do appreciate it! On the modifications for the sub-frame brackets on the front end I had to redrill two holes closer to the brackets and on the back of the sub-frame where it mounts to the rear axle housing, I had to cut the square tabs off and re-weld them so that the bolts on the brackets are out at the end of the square housing on the tractor. Hopefully this will work and let you know if everything bolts up!
Also, on the front end I had to put 2" spacer blocks between the brackets and the tractor housing.
Again, Thanks.

Will the 2000 loader work on 686 IH? Reading through the replies posted I saw one reply that said it would work on a 706 and I believe the 706 and 686 frames would be close to the same. Also what would a 2000 be worth? The one I have found needs some work, but is not too bad. Thanks for any help!
