OT Chevy 4.3

I need some help from some of you. Chevy 1500 pick up 4.3 has rough idle it has 1406 mfg code I think that is egr valve circit what do I ned to fix it. Thanks in advance.

For a 1987 4.3L the EGR is about 63$ new. I"ve cleaned mine with brake cleaner and it seems to help. Make sure the little plunger moves freely. Mine is at the back of the engine just behind the TBI which makes it a pain to work on.
Not hard at all if you are in a warm building.

The rough idle hints at a vacuum leak (or the EGR valve stuck wide open).

I would go thru and replace any suspect lines throughout the engine first. Napa makes a silicone vacuum hose which is thermal resistant and twice as flexible as the standard black versions. It costs a little more but you will find GM used different sized endforms on hoses for assembly error-proofing, and the silicone is flexible enough to adapt to this.

HELLO,
you can check at your local auto parts
store several companies make egr gaskets to
keep carbon out of the valve .
they have a screen on are a little spendy
but darn sight cheeper than a egr valve

It used to be that when the EGR gave trouble, it got removed and the port was blocked off with a homemade steel plate. Sometimes they got removed even before they gave trouble because the car just plain ran better without it. Today, the on-board computer will not let you remove it. Or will it?
