Farmall IHC - Model 240

new here i need to know were to find the serial number and year of a Farmall & IHC - Model 240
the tractor runs but i did a compression check on all cylinders and found two of them dead 0 pressure but it still runs lol there is more info i could use like does it have sleeves for the pistons what motor does it have thanks in advance

Engine is C123, wet sleeves -- be sure you get the right kit, some differences in C123 engines.

What clearnce is on the valves on those two cylinders? Don't have to be off much to give you 0 compression reading. If it is valve setting, and you continue to run it, and LOL, you will burn the valve and seats.

Gordo

i know if i keep runing it i will burn the valve and seats i just started it to see if it would run wasint very long 5 minutes it never did smoke in that short of time thanks

you might also get a few casting codes off of some parts of the body.If they are original to the Tractor they sometimes can give you an idea of the year, month of manufacture.

Pull the VC and see if a pair of valves are suck. If so PB blaster them and tap tap tap on the stem to free them. if they are operating OK, put an air hose in one spark plug hole, and (with the other spark plug out, see if air is gushing out the other. Blown Head gasket. Check the radiator, Air nrushing out Bad head gasket, or cracked head. Check the crank case Air here means blown pistons rings or possibly a chunk out of a cylinder. JimN

after the compression test i removed the Valve Cover and turned over the motor all valves and rocker arms move freely and oil pumps up to the rocker arms i was thinking to remove the head to check the cylinders and go from there. there is no water in the oil pan. no leaks anywere i can see i will try to find the serial number today to see what year it is thanks

I checked to see if a serial number could be still on the tractor and found a alum tag on the trans like you said the only numbers that i could see were 8857J what else can i check too see about what year it may be thanks
