Farmall H Shutter linkage

I am trying to restore my H as original as possible. I have purchased the shutter linkage; the crank and long rod from the crank to the lever on the front of the engine next to the oil fill section. The question: Does the long rod have a bend or an offset before it gets to the crank? I have the crank in the upper right hole in the front plate as shown in manuals. However, the crank and rod do not line up. I can force them to meet, but it does not provide for a smooth operation. Does anyone understand what I am trying to describe?

I am restoring a SH with shutters. It is a stage 2 with the battery under the seat and hydraulics under the tank. I also have a rod from a early SH tractor that I used for parts and that rod should be the same as your H. It has a number of slight bends with two fairly close to the crank end. What do you mean by the "front plate"? The crank bracket clamps to the steering post and the only other thing the rod passes through is a support that bolts to the fuel tank mount. Are you trying to pass the rod though one of the holes in the rear tank support?
