WHERE TO BY FIRECRATER PISTON

i AM REBUILDING AN SUPER M LOOKING TO FIND FIRECRATER STYLE PISTONS BUT NOT HAVING ANY LUCK AT ANY LOCAL PARTS STORES OR MACHINE SHOPS CAN ONLY FIND STEP HEAD STYLE ANY SUGGESTIONS APPRECIATED
 
Case IH sells high compression "stepped head" pistons. Dad bought a set for the H we rebuilt and they make good power. You won't find new "fire craters".
 
I got into Case-IH online parts system and dug up this...for a Super M...

374469R91 PISTON ASSY. SLEEVE SET, crankcase ("fire crater increased power") (consists of four sleeves w/pistons and rings, 374470R91) (gasoline-high altitude, also liquefied petroleum gas-standard altitude) (see note D) Figure: 021 CARBURETED ENGINE, CRANKSHAFT, RODS, PISTONS, CYLINDER SLEEVES, DRIVE

And a stepped-head piston will simply have 1/2 of the piston head sticking up higher than the other.

So do any of those types tend to work better than the others?
 
The IH Firecrater is supposed to be the best. When I rebuilt my H they were $150 per hole or $600 total for just sleeves, pistons, and rings. Too rich for my blood. I paid $600 for the complete kit (bearings, valves, guides, etc.) with Conformatic pistons.

berkshire equipment in royal center indiana may have some nos firecrater piston and sleeves kits for your super m. gonna be a little on the spendy side tho.
