M-Oil pan questions

I took of my oil pan to clean out the sludge but all the bolts were the same length. Arent 4 of them suspose to be longer? I thought I remember reading that the 2 in front and 2 in back were suspose to be slightly longer. I tried to search but all I found was a thread about an H.

Does anybody know what length the longer ones are suspose to be?

I assume all the bolts get a lock washer? A couple seemed to have them but most appeared missing although they could be under the scum somewhere.

What do I torque the bolts to? Again I searched but all I found was a H thread and they said 33 foot pounds, I just want to make sure that sounds right.

Anything else I should be looking at while I am in there? Oil pump screen is spotless and it has good pressure so I believe that is all good.

Another thing to look at is the left frt.corner of the oil pan, alot of them on the M's have tendency of cracking and causeing an oil leak.

a picture is worth a thousand words, here is location of the two long bolts. they are 1 inch long. the rest are 3/4 inch long and the center rear is a nut.

opps...bad me . i re-read andy post, and then put a caliper on the pan bolts, 7/8 inch for the shorties, inch and 1/8 for the longies. tape measure isnt always the most accurate.

Two longer bolts go at rear on each side of the stud, they pass through the steel plate stud is in before contacting threads. Sometimes find a longer bolt in breather pipe support bracket and sometimes not. Hard to say if its original after all these years.

john, dis-regard my post on the bolt location. i marked the bolts when i took this m apart when i dropped the pan. never dawned on me that the last time the pan was off the bolts werent put back in the right spots. d slater has it right.

Thanks everybody, I guess my memory was incorrect about there being 4 long bolts.

Randy, thanks for posting the section from the parts manual, very helpful for people like me that dont have one.

Rich, found some brazing in that exact spot this morning when I was cleaning the pan up. I had planned on hammering the larger dent on the side and bottom of the pan back out but I think now I will leave them. I dont want to mess up the brazing and have to get it redone. I have a little wirefeed but would have to take it to town and pay somebody to braze it.
