1586 dual pto- how to convert to both?

Jesse: I'm not sure this can be achived. One could convert a 1486 by just using IPTO from a 10, 9, etc., however 1586 is not exactly same rear end. It may work, not certain.

It would be much cheaper to install a 540 adaptor on 1586 - 1,000 RPM shaft and run it slightly over 1/2 throttle. It will still develop 90 hp and that is all 540 PTO will stand anyhow. This is why 1,000 RPM was developed in the first place, 540 will not stand torque of big hp.

You need a dual speed PTO assembly. They were available for 1086 and smaller tractors. Best to get the same style as your single speed unit. On later units the lever will drop out of engagement when the engine is shut off. That shaft also is free to turn with the engine off. If you do not get the same style you will also need to change some linkage. You will also need a different coupler inside the the rear frame. The 15 series uses a larger diameter drive shaft shaft so you need a coupler to adapt it to the smaller size on the PTO unit.
