Just got an H and the front axles have nipples sticking out of the bearing cap. I never seen one like this . Anyone have any thoughts as to what this mite have been used for?

not sure if this is what your talking about but mine has round things (kinda like nipples) sticking out and they were to mount a picker on i believe.

The nose cone of a mounted corn picker attached to the "nipples" allowing the nose to follow the turning of the wheels left and right. The parts are standard with a mounted picker. They replace the axle nut, and are pinch bolt locked. JimN

If I'm not wrong,I believe that IH picker # was a model 24. The frt.snoot mounted on these some how and turned with the frt wheels. Any way this is what I was told once, never seen one myself.

Rich, you are correct. I remember the #24 picker that my dad had when I was just a little guy. I think those special hub covers were still on the H when it got sold at the farm auction in about 1990.

Yep, I remember dad putting them on the "H" when he was preparing it to mount the picker # 20. I think it got as many husks as it did ears of corn
