Rear mounted Mower on an Farmall A

I don't know the mower model #,but it is rear mounted, has a manual lever for the bar, has a belt drive from the pto driven top pulley to the lower pitman pulley.I need to replace the pitman shaft, pulley and arm(all on piece). That part # is M 2572. How does the shaft come out? and What holds it in? . I took the front plate off(4 bolts)which reveals the shaft turning in a bearing, but no clue how to get it to come out.
Thanks

I've got a Mod. 21 on my Super C (same works, but different frame from the same model for the A) that lists M2572 for the flywheel (pulley) that the pitman connects to.

Between the manual and the parts listing, I might be able to help, but am not entirely clear on what parts you're asking about (more a matter of terminology than anything else).

Shaft -- the shaft that the flywheel/pulley spins on, or the off-center pin that actually moves the pitman?

Arm -- the wooden pitman itself or the metal piece that uses four bolts to hold it to the pin on the flywheel?

There were two types of connections between the flywheel and the pitman itself. One rode on a bushing, the other a bearing, and they come apart a little differently.

Scotty , part# M-2572 appears to me to be attached (or cast/machined together) to the shaft that turns M2572. Then the shorter off center "pin " that the pitman bearing turns on
and the threaded stub that holds it on is worn out.In fact the PO had welded the nut on to hold the bearing on. Anyway that is what I need to replace, but I can't see how to get it (the short off center pin and threaded stubb) off.
Hope this clears it up some , Thanks, Tim

Here's what I can find, Tim. It's not the whole answer you're looking for, I'm afraid, but I hope it helps.

The wrist pin is part #M22195X. The X indicates that it's a service part and includes the pin and the nut which is part #M305. The nut is a bit of an oddball, a 5/8" LEFT-HAND thread. The description in the parts book is " 5/8 L.H.-12-N4". Ordinarily, I'd take the 12 to be thread pitch, which makes the 12 unusual in that 5/8 coarse is usually 11, and fine is 18. All I can find in a quick Google is that N4 is likely an indicator of roughness of the thread surface, and therefore tightness of the fit.

In another unusual twist, the parts catalog does not show the wristpin disassembled, so I can't help much with how it comes off or goes on to the flywheel.

On the off chance that the wrist pin threads into the flywheel, you can try turning it out by turning the welded-on nut clockwise (i.e., loosening a left-hand thread). I'd try that before grinding off enough of the nut to remove the weld. It got welded for a reason, and you may find that the PO had difficulty matching up the nut and goobered your threads up.

Just bear in mind as you're trying that it may also be a press (tension) fit that is keyed in some way to keep it from turning.

If you could get the part from a CaseIH dealer, it would include the nut and should also give you an idea of what holds the pin to the flywheel.

Scotty, thanks, that gives me something to go on.
'course I already ground the nut off. When I get it figured out I'll post it. Thanks again.

Not sure so don't quote me on this. I believe the wrist pin is driven into the flywheel and headed over.

That bottom pulley/crank arm is keyed and PRESSED TIGHT on the lower shaft. Bearing splitter in the pulley groove and a porta-power will do the job, or tear it down far enough to get it in a press. Takes some seious force to get them apart. Shaft comes out from the front after the pulley is off. BTDT.
