Bought this Cub a month ago. Engine was stuck, freed it up. Put new points and condensor in it. Rebuilt the carburetor, installed new battery. I have nice blue spark. Pulled the plug out of the carb. and have plenty of flow. Don't have a compression gage but when I put my thumb over the spark plug holes and turn it over the compression blows my thumb off each cylinder. Tried starting fluid through carb. - nothing. Pulled each plug and sprayed starting fluid in each cylinder - nothing. I'm now lost, any other suggestions? Thank you, Joe

Is the firing order 1-3-4-2? Clockwise or counter clockwise? I just dumped oil in the cylinders and now am getting some pops.

Clockwise but you could tell for sure by removing the distributor cap and watching the rotor move as you crank the engine.

If you haven"t done so, static time the engine. Sounds like the ignition timing is off some place. Or, plug wires on wrong plug.

There is a web site dedicated strictly to Cubs. Try farmallcub in the web search.

Bring No1 piston near the radiator to TDC on the compression stroke. Remove No1 sparkplug and hold your thumb over the plug hole while someone hand cranks the engine until the piston is at TDC. Then remove the cap and see where the rotor is pointing. It should be pointing to the No1 plug tower on the cap. Both valves on No1 should be closed when you're at TDC on No1 cylinder. If the rotor is off you will need to pull the mag or distributor and turn the rotor so its near the 1 & 2'o'clock position and reinstall. The plug wires need to go to the corresponding plugs in this firing order from the cap to the plug: Hal
PS: The rotor turns CW.

Got it running. Had misinformation before. Someone told me rotor went counter clockwise so the firing order was off on cylinder 2+3. Also installed a new set of plugs. Another problem was the carb. jet clogged up. Thought I had all the passages cleaned (guess not). Now the only problem is it has to be partially choked to stay running. Any ideas why? I did go for the maiden voyage and the trans and final drives are quiet as can be. The pto works nice and quiet too. This Cub doesn't have any cracks, welds, or repairs. Just needs a paint job and rear rims now. Even the lights work. Thanks for everyones help and advice. Joe
