farmall 806 diesel w/propane injection

i have a friend that has a farmall 806 diesel w/propane injection system on it does anyone know could this be a rare factory system or a is it aftermarkit add on ? thanks

I saw one of those set ups on a 560D back in the middle 60s when I woked for a local propane co. Suppose to increase hp I guess. I am sure that it is a add on item.

Definately not factory. Not real sure the propane injection even was offered as an aftermarket kit. Most of the set-ups I have seen were do-it-yourself with parts from the local plumbing shop.

Matthew: Home built and geared up for pulling, would be my guess. I was at a tractor pull once, all hell broke loose when some of the competetors discovered 3 White diesel tractors had propane boosters. It was a stock pull, however the owners declared the propane booster was stock equipment. White-Oliver dealer was called in to settle the dispute. He declared it was not stock equipment, thus the White owners had to remove the propane cylinders or face disqualification.

It could have been home built for cold weather starting. Those are designed that you light the propane burner and the fire is sucked in the intake manifold. Only marginally successful, as you have to shut off the propane fire in order for the diesel to get enough oxygen to fire on it's own. I once watched a diesel being fired up this way, -38F, it was sucking fire in an on out through the exhaust, but it wouldn't diesel on it's own until he shut the propane fire off. I would think in cold weather like that judgement on when to shut that fire off would be quite crucial.
