Farmall Super H won't run

Old Tractors

I have a Farmall Super H tractor. Tractor starts and runs great when it is cold. When the Super H starts to warm up it starts to miss and won't run right at full throttle and as the tractor warms up even more the Super H won't run right even on an idle. Oil pressure is great, temperature does not even make it out of the cold range. The voltage regulator was recently put on by the previous owner, but the tractor does not show that it is charging. The lights come on bright.

Two easy to check high probability issues.
The heat related poor performance is possibly a coil. see if it is too hot to touch when it begins to be getting rough.
A degrading condenser will also play that game.
If the coil is hot, change the coil with one that is good.
If it is cool change the condenser. Another possible issue is a worn distributor bushing. If the shaft has any side to side play in it it needs to be rebushed. Seting the points may help, but will not fix that issue. JimN

When it quits running you need to check for fire to your plugs asap before the engine cools. Could be the coil. Hal

I think Jim has it nailed for you. Could end up bein' the condenser but it sure sounds like a bad coil. If so it WILL be HOT.

As far as not showing any charge, could be a lot of things. Have you tried polarizing the generator? That's a common cause of not charging. Apart from that, runa search on this site for "John T" and "troubleshooting" which will get you to his very helpful troubleshooting guide and will walk you right through narrowing down the problem.

Possibly is an ignition coil problem, but I suspect the manifold gaskets. Could even be that the valves are set too tight.

In freezing conditions, there could be moisture in the distributor cap area that freezes when cold--& thaws as the engine warms up--causing spark delivery problems. Our A with a mag had this problem one winter & was hard to diagnose.
A hair dryer would dry out the dist. cap & rotor.
This is a possibility after trying the other suggestions mentioned.

I'll bet the coil is bad. When it starts running bad when it warms up, feel the coil, it might be very hot. Replace the coil with a new one and see if that changes anything.
