Has anybody had trouble removing the steering cylinder on a 340 utility or any other tractor that might help me out? The piston seem to be stuck .I tried to get it off with a puller but no luck.No steering even with front wheels off the ground.Track the problem down to the steering piston being stuck. The tractor set for a month maybe a little longer when this happen.Thank you for your time.

If yours is like my 2606 with the 2 way cylinder under the front axle, then I just rebuilt mine. Is the piston stuck or the seal blown out and fluid bypassing? Raise the wheels and see if they and the piston move by hand. To remove, just remove the 2 hoses, the bolts holding the mount in the middle and the pin.

On mine, the piston is in the middle of the rod and is stationary or fixed solid. It doesn't move on the rod. Go to www.caseih.com and there are 2 search for parts screens. Put in your model or a similar model and the schmatic and part numbers show up.

On mine the rod screws into the block on the end for the pin. Have to put in in the vise to unscrew it to change the packing and orings on that side. The end of the piston rod has a couple flats for putting a wrench on it. Suppose you could break it loose before you remove the cylinder from the tractor.

The design of the 2 way steering cylinger is for fluid to pump through the rod to the other side of the piston and fluid comes out the block to push it the other way.

Post back with what you find out.
