'48 H Hydraulic Hoses

What length hoses and thread pattern (including the type of couplings on the end) do I need to run hoses from the two left hydraulic connections to the rear of the tractor, from the belly pump? I'm not up to speed on hydraulic couplings and such.

they are 1/2 inch national pipe thread, i just measures an m in the shop, the hydraulic hose from the rear of the deck to the back left fitting measures 54 inches. you may need to go a little longer, depending on where your outlets are going to lay.

I just wanted to add a picture of it, with me and my youngest son with it last weekend.

Chad504,

You are aware that those two connections will NOT give you two-way hydraulics, right?

Both those connections provide one-way pressure, but the rear one has a slight delay in it.

To get two-way hydraulics, you need to add a two-way valve. It's not difficult but it will cost you a couple hundred dollars.

Yes, I was just want to go ahead and get a pair of hoses, either from left and right outputs, or both for he right. Just to have them on hand, when I het it painted enough to put them on.

We use to make up our own hydraulic hoses using removable ends. You need a bench vise to hold the hose while threading the first fitting over the hose. They're installed CCW since the thread is left-handed. We would squirt some oil in the hose and then install the swivel nut using a tube fitting to lock the swivel nut until you have that installed. Here's a pic of one my spare hydraulic hoses used on my garden tractor hydraulic lift. They have been on the tractor since 1979. I use JIC steel flared fittings. Hal

I would be with El Toro on this...use NPT to JIC male, put JIC female fittings on both end of the hose. This way you never have to fight with the hose or rotate the entire hose (if one had an NPT male crimp fitting)

Often if you can layout the hose path with something like a garden hose or a scrap piece of wire you can arrive at a length. Take this to the hydraulics shop with you.

If you use the "reusable" fittings as El Toro has pictured I find a couple drops of cheap rear axle lube (EP oil) to be the best assembly lube.

Where can you get those reusable fittings and hose? Probably a local hydraulics supply, right? Pretty much rules out me ever getting there because those places are open from 9-5 M-F, and I work 8-6 M-F.

Any hydraulic store will carry them. We used a lot of Aeroquip hose. Parker and Alemite are just as good. If you know the lemgth and size of hose and what ends you want to install on hose you can have your wife or friend pick them up. I like using the JIC fittings and swivel nuts on the hose. It makes for an easy connection. You can get straight swivel nuts or 40 degrees or 90 degrees. If its in an area hard to access I would use one of the angle swivel nuts. My garden tractor hydraulics will pick up the plow and sleeve hitch easily. Hal
