easy M question

Mikes dad

New User
I am borrowing my freinds M and I would like to check the engine oil. I have not spent a lot of time trying to figure it out, I am sure it is a check plug, but I want to be sure. Would somebody inform me on this procedure,Thanks.

I"m no great mechanic, but I can help you here. On the right side of the oil pan (driver"s right), you"ll find two screw-type check plugs. One is higher than the other. To check the oil level, first loosen the top one. If no oil drips out, check the second lower one. If no oil drips out, you need to add oil. Close the lower one and leave the top one open. Fill until oil drips out of the top one. Then close it. Hope this helps. David

Probably is not 100% correct, but if no oil drips from the bottom petcock, I pour in a full quart. That may make the pan a bit over-full, but I've never experienced any issues because of it. Been doing it that way for at least 40 years now,
