MD gas start linkage

My 52 MD has screwed up linkage in the gas starting mecanism. If the compression release lever and the throttle are in the "GAS" position, the carb is in the diesel, and when they are in the "Diesel", the carb is in "Gas". Has anyone had this happen before? Previous owner used a block heater and an Electric Start Booster and started it in Diesel.
Any suggestions other than removing all the linkage and starting over. It has an IH Diesel fuel pump. Thanks

If your problem is that the butterfly valves in the intake manifold are open when they should be shut, that can be corrected by adjusting the length of the lever that goes to the arm that controls the butterfly valves.
If your problem is that the carburetor fuel shutoff is off when it should be on, you may have the arm hooked up on the wrong side. You need to take the carburetor off and look at which position is on and off on the carb. Then move the linkage without the carb hooked up. You"ll probably find the problem. Your linkage could be far enough out of adjustment that someone hooked it up incorrectly last time it was taken apart.
Good Luck!
