pulling dampner

Hi, I'm trying to remove the front crankshaft pulley or dampner off a 1066. It has a 414 engine and there are 3 bolts holding the dampner on. I've removed all 3 bolts then placed them back in their holes threading them in a few turns and pushed against them using a puller. it won't budge. what am I doing wrong ?

I'm kinda new to the tractor scene, but if yhey're anything like cars, you've just put the bolts back into the flange on the crankshaft. That will not remove the damper/pulley. How to go about it further I'm not sure. Hopefully someone else can help. Sorry I couldn't help any further.

The three bolts do not hold the damper on. The only hold the dust shield. You need a puller that can be attached to the three bolts and then the forcing screw needs to push against the end of the crankshaft.

My puller needed a little coaxing. The dampner is off ! I kept the 3 original bolts threaded into the holes a few turns, then had to replace them with 3 longer bolts as the dampner moved forward until it finally pulled clear off the crank. Thanks for your help. BTW, this dampner is nothing like what you would see on a car, the center is solid with 3 bolts holding it to the end of the crankshaft. The crank is so big it has (3) 3/8 holes drilled and tapped into the end of it, 120 degrees apart. The dampner is held tight to the crank with these 3 bolts, but these bolts are the only thing you can push against to remove the dampner. hope my words are painting a decent picture. John.

I missed on what three bolts you were referring to. The crankshaft also has a small hole in the middle to center the puller forcing screw.

If the crankshaft still has just a plain woodruff key in it to locate the damper, is is a good idea to replace it with the updated key which is a little longer on the shaft so that it stays in place when the damper is pulled back on. There have been many dampers destroyed when the original style key moved a little in the keyway during installation and cracks the hub.
