just bought a used 300u with a loader
now that the weather is colder the loader is very slow and struggles to lift 500lbs of salt
the tank under the seat is full. i picked up a new hydro filter . is there a screen inside the tank if so how can i remove a clean it

JOHN

There is a screen in the tank. It is not available anymore. You need to unbolt the tank and it is in there be sure to have plenty of speedy dry. My screen was so plugged I lost all pressure

This is not a one man jog unless you have a good chain hoist. Be very careful setting the heavy top half back in place as it is very easy to crush the screen. It is shaped similar to a paper towel cardboard.

If you can find a new one laying on some dealers shelf it will be about $80.00

You say filter in your post. A 300U only has a screen in the suction line (as described below)
if yours has had a filter installed, it may be the problem in a nutshell. The suction side of the pump is very sensitive to restriction. If you can find a very free flowing filter element, (or no element if possible) try that. There are filters that will work, but they need to be rated to flow about 2 to 3 times the pump output, to be non-restrictive enough. If it is a spliced in filter with hose clamps, Take it out and put in a straight hose to see if it is operational. I would also purchase a pint of Hytran (or equal viscosity) and compare it to the fluid in your tank. If it is thickening with cold it will contribute to the problem. If it were mine, and I was intent on having it filtered, it would have paralleled 15gpm filter elements with probably 10 micron trapping. If I put that in the suction line, I would take out the screen in the tank to reduce that from causing problems. JimN

High quality fluid will only get a little thicker in cold weather I would not recommend additives for that purpose. Real Hytran from CaseIH, or JD hydraulic oil, or Mobil Hydraulic transmission oil that meets Hytran or JD spec.. JimN
