Did it freeze the block or possibly a soft plug?

I forogt that I had water in my Farmall A that I use for grass cutting. I had water in it because the water pump had went out of it. Yes its a 1945 A with a water pump. Someone added that and a dip stick.
Anyway it has been cold in michigan and I went out to start it up and drian it out. well after I started it up I had liquid leaking out of the clutch hand hole cover. I thought maybe it was just rain or snow. Today I took out some antifreeze and poored it in and it wasn't long it was leaking out the hand hole cover again.
Please tell me there is a freeze plug behind the fly wheel and that frooze and broke or did I mess it up and the block is cracked? It didn't freeze hard enough to freeze it in the water pump and radiator what do you think?

I hope that it will be that I am so made at myself. Since water ran out of the drain plug you would think it would not freeze hard enough to break the block. at least I hope.

You probably lucked out. The usual place for these to crack when frozen is just in front of the carburator on the side of the block. If it is not cracked there, it probably just pushed out the plugs in the back of the block. You are going to have to split the tractor to get to them.

There are two plugs behind the flywheel.
If you look at the rear of the engine, with the flywheel removed, the plug in the water passage is on the left. The one on the right is behind the rear camshaft bearing and it won't leak water, if it leaks, it would be oil.

it is going to be a while before I get to look at it. Maybe next weekend if I am lucky,
WHile I got this apart I need to find the correct radiator. I had one go bad and used one from an earlier model. I need the one with the spring loaded spring latches and I have the one that uses the screws for the hood. Does anyone what to trade or have one at a reasonable price?

Very few engines that freeze will have the "welch" plugs pushed out. These plugs are to cover holes left in the block from casting process. I have found from personal experience and records that 16 degrees is the magic tem. for block freezing. Of course it depends on how long the temperature has been below freezing and other factors.

We see approx 8 to 10 blocks a year that are froze broke (Marine bus.) most do not have the core plugs (welsh) pushed out, Freeze plug is a bad term. We do see 1 or 2 that the plug is out and not frozen, but not many.
